SEAN BELL BEGINS HIS WORLD RECORD RUN ATTEMPT AROUND AUSTRALIA
(That's a double marathon a day for 170 days).
A journal before we ran with Sean.
With 100 and something days out from the start of Sean Bell’s run, I got a call from my good friend and run coach Sean to let me know that things weren’t going his way with his current talent management.
The call went on to Sean asking me if I would be his talent manager for his run around Australia.
With no talent management experience but 100% willingness to dig deep and help Sean make this all possible…
I said “Yes, count me in Coach”.
(Sean coached me for NYC marathon)
Fast forward 100 days and I am now sitting on the plane from Sydney to Melbourne with a good friend Julia, ready to send Sean off for his first day of the great attempt to beat the world record for the fastest run around Australia, all while raising $1.4 million for make a wish Australia.
Sean will be running a double marathon a day for 170 days all to raise money for Make a Wish Australia.
Something I have always joy in is the ability to convince others to do things that they never imagined they could.
Sitting next to Julia, she’s never done an ultra marathon and nor have I. Tomorrow morning we will be waking up at 3:30 am for a 4:30am kick off with Sean and anyone who chooses to show up.
Chasing the feeling of being nervous and excited at the same time this year and holding my self to doing cool shit with cool people, this feels almost too perfect.
I am nervous because I have no idea how tomorrow could go, but at the same time I am so excited because we will be a part of making history with Sean, all for a good cause.
It is an absolute honour to have my creative powerhouse, Fortem Media as a major sponsor of the run, documenting every day through powerful photo and video content and I am genuinely so excited to see what we can do as a team to raise awareness and build Sean’s engagement to be so strong that he cracks his fundraising target.
But back to doing hard things with cool people. There is this beauty in not believing that something is possible and achieving it. My most recent battle with this was the NYC marathon and accomplishing the target of sub-3:30mins for my first marathon.
What I realised along the way was that those who embark on these challenges together are gifted with the most incredible bond and connection. I am convinced that if you choose to do things with people that are both outside of your comfort zones you will innately become closer and experience a deeper path of connection.
The silence on the roads. The footsteps. The bond. The conversation and the connection.
I am excited for the experience and can’t wait to push past what I believe is possible for me in my current form.
With London Marathon fast approaching it will be this that will instil confidence in me to go on and push for a PB there.
Coach, it’s going to be a journey and I can’t wait to be there along the way both by your side and from afar.
Here is to seeing you get it done.
I’ll be back with more thoughts soon.
